Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 8 Things You Need To Know About The New Lightsaber

6. It Could Be An Earlier Model

Working on the previous point about Revan being the wielder of the new blade, perhaps this lightsaber is a previous model. Given that Revan was around 4,000 years before Luke destroyed the Death Star and became the Jedi Master he€™s believed to be in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it€™s likely that the new bad is wielding an older model lightsaber. If you logically go back in time, it€™s plausible that lightsabers were designed more akin to the old age broadswords that people are accustomed to throughout history. Perhaps even as time went on, the lightsaber design was perfected, or fighting styles changed, thus rendering the guard useless. Another theory that has come about from the set leaks is that our new villain could be a grave robber type of character. According to the information that has sneaked out, someone in the universe has been desperately seeking out Sith artefacts, presumably with some long-term goal in mind. One such image has shown this character holding Darth Vader€™s mask, so perhaps they have also found this old age lightsaber for their collection. Even more interesting is the possibility that it could be a former Sith weapon, perhaps once belonging to an Emperor.
