Star Wars: The Force Awakens - Ranking The New Characters Worst To Best
5. Poe Dameron
Poe is the first of the new heroes that we see in the film, so Oscar Isaac had a huge task in making him work right off the bat; if his character hadn't clicked to get audiences rooting for him within those first few minutes, the momentum of the film's opening act could've stalled out of the gate. Fortunately, he did work, with Isaac's innate likability going a long way in getting people on board with Poe. It says a lot about the actor's work here that, despite disappearing for a huge chunk of the film not long after, his return to help save the day drew cheers from audiences upon seeing him again. Despite having to essentially spend the rest of the film playing Luke's last-act A New Hope role in destroying Starkiller Base, what we got to see of the character - charming, fearless, and a great pilot, yet not a fully unbreakable hero, as he did end up giving the truth about BB-8 during his torture at the hands of Kylo Ren - solidified him as a character who has every opportunity to grow, build his friendship with Finn, and, hopefully, be able to mix it up on the ground floor action in the future.
