Star Wars: The High Republic - Everything We Know So Far
6. We Have A New Enemy...
Stories can live or die on the quality of their villains, so perhaps the biggest question on fans' minds regarding the High Republic is who the noble Jedi are going to be up against.
Whilst there are definite advantages to setting the story in its own, separate time period, the obvious negative is that the writers have to live up to the likes of Darth Vader and Darth Sidious, as well as more obscure enemies like the Yuuzhan Vong and the monstrous Force user Abeloth.
The Sith in this time period are believed extinct by the Jedi, but will actually be in hiding, adhering to Darth Bane's Rule of Two.
It is feasible that the Sith may rear their heads in the High Republic tales, but they will not make themselves known at this point.
The antagonists in the High Republic, then, are the Nihil (pronounced "Nile").
This invading force of marauding, pillaging, masked space pirates are rampaging through the galaxy, landing them very firmly on the radar of the Jedi order.
Not much more is known about the Nihil at this point, so fans will have to pick up the books to see where they fit into the pantheon of badass Star Wars villainy.
