Star Wars: Rebels may have been unable to reach the heights of its immediate predecessor, but boy, it doesn't half show its potential at times.

One such character that seemingly possesses bags of the stuff is Kanan Jarrus, a former Jedi Knight turned Rebel who survived Order 66. While his past is only hinted at in the show, or given the tiniest amounts of attention, Greg Weisman really got to grips with the character in his own comic, published in 2015.

In it, we see the eponymous Jedi's experience of the Clone Wars and in particular his relationship with his master, Depa Billaba. Order 66 is understandably a harrowing moment in the Star Wars canon, and Weisman pulls no punches in his depiction of the event, making for what is, quite possibly, one of the most emotional Star Wars comics out there.

The Last Padawan is the first book of the long-running Kanan comic, but it also represents a definite high-point in the series. Fans of Rebels will no doubt be aware of Weisman's work, but even if you're not Rebel-inclined, there's plenty of cause to check this series out.
