Star Wars: The Last Jedi - 10 Concerns Raised By The Full Trailer
8. Snoke Feels Like A Pantomime Villain
Snoke was not a particularly interesting villain for the sum of The Force Awakens, but audiences could forgive such a thing on the basis that he only appeared as a hologram. The Last Jedi's full trailer offers a much better glimpse at the big villain of the new trilogy, however: he's visible in the flesh, spouting lines of dialogue.
The most disappointing revelation, then, stems from the fact that Snoke just comes across as a bad guy of the most generic order. The delivery of his lines, especially, give him a pantomime quality that wasn't even apparent in The Force Awakens. "When I found you, I saw RAW, untamed power...." is frankly bizarre.
Given the levels of creative freedom that Rian Johnson was given with regards to The Last Jedi's characters, however, it would be a mighty shame if Snoke turns out to be a mostly forgettable bad guy - and nothing we've seen of him so far, in both Episode VII or this trailer, suggests he'll be anything other than that.
Prove us wrong, Rian Johnson. Don't go down the Marvel Studios route.
