No movie released this past year has been as feverishly discussed and debated as Star Wars: The Last Jedi. It's been without question 2017's most anticipated film, and being a Star Wars movie, it's practically invited fans to bring their craziest and most imaginative theories to the table.

These 10 rumours and fan theories are the ones that, above all else, generally held the most water leading up to The Last Jedi's release, but with the film now out in the wild, we know that not a single one of them came true.

At least a few of these rumours seemed like sure things, yet in fact, Rian Johnson managed to thoroughly surprise fans by deviating completely from the predictable route, carving out far more interesting fates for many of the movie's key characters.
