Star Wars: The Last Jedi - 13 Biggest Unanswered Questions
1. Who Was Filming Maz Kanata's Video Call?
The Question: When they're trying to figure out a way on-board the First Order's primary vessel, Finn and Rose have a video call with Maz Kanata, who tells them that they need to visit Canto Bight and find a codecracker.
During the call, Maz is in the middle of an, um, "union dispute", rolling around and firing guns, which raises surely the most baffling and important question coming away from The Last Jedi: who the hell was filming that video call?
The Likely Answer: Yes, this list is ending on a nitpick, but it's a nitpick about a staggeringly stupid, immersion-breaking moment in the movie.
Everyone hates it when a film shows a surveillance camera with suspiciously cinematic camera angles and movements, right? It's lazy, distracting, and patronising to the audience. So, why was Maz shown in the middle of combat, with a camera smoothly following her actions? Did she force some poor intern to film her at all costs?
The real answer, of course, is that fans complaining about this put way more thought into it than the filmmakers did.
