Ever since it was announced Star Wars was coming back, people have been wondering what's become of Luke Skywalker, and who he is nowadays. That's the question that convinced J.J. Abrams to take the directing gig for Episode VII, yet a clear answer was never given. He's in exile, but what is he really up to?

The Last Jedi will give us some answers. He'll train Rey, yes, but to what end? The trailer speaks of the Light Side, the Dark Side, and above all, balance. The notion of bringing balance to the Force has been around a long-time in Star Wars, but is Luke now truly attempting it, and is he a Gray Jedi?

Gray Jedi refers to someone who walks the line between Light and Dark, operating outside of the Jedi High Council and Jedi Code. While the term really only exists outside of canon, we have seen characters who fit this mould, such as Ahsoka Tano or Bendu, who says he is "The one in the middle" of Light and Dark.

Luke says that it's time for the Jedi to end, which suggests he wants to end the Jedi/Sith dichotomy and instead explore a new, balanced way of using the Force; so does that make him a Gray Jedi, or will there be a different explanation for what's happening with him?
