Star Wars: The Last Jedi Teaser - 5 Similarities And 3 Big Differences To The Force Awakens

1. The Secret Dialogue

Even on the surface, The Last Jedi's teaser contains a lot more dialogue than The Force Awakens' - which only featured a few short lines, courtesy of Snoke - did.

It starts off with Luke, who's talking to somebody we can assume is Rey, before moving on to her own brief snippets of dialogue and ending on Luke's chilling "truth".

But there's actually a lot more than that, in the form of a handful of extremely quiet quotes peppered throughout the trailer.

As the camera zooms slowly toward the back of Leia, you can hear her "Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi" line, ripped directly from A New Hope.

Then, on the shot of Kylo Ren's shattered mask, you can hear Vader's breath, and a voice saying "seduced by the dark side", with the Internet being unable to decide whether it's Obi-Wan or Emperor Palpatine who says it.

Then, on the far-off shot of those books, Yoda can be heard saying "surrounds us and binds us", a distilled version of a longer line he spoke in The Empire Strikes Back.

The big question, then, is what does all this mean? Is it merely fan-service? Or an indication that Episode 8 will contain more connections to previous Star Wars films than we're anticipating? In truth, it could be either option.

Whatever the reasoning behind the choice, it made for a fantastically atmospheric, nostalgia-inducing trailer, and the film itself cannot come soon enough.
