Star Wars: The Last Jedi Trailer Breakdown: 21 Things You Need To See

1. Time To End

"I only know one truth... It's time for the Jedi to end."

And there you have your money, er, quote. Luke Skywalker, one of the greatest, strongest, most beloved Jedi to have ever lived in all of Star Wars lore, the hero of the saga, thinks it's time to end the Jedi.

On the one hand it's a big shock, because we're hearing the Jedi Master admit that the Jedi must end. And yet it fits: the Jedi have always sought to bring balance to the Force, and yet been blinded by their opposition of the Sith and own self-righteousness that they didn't consider their own part in that balance.

Luke, who has exiled himself to the First Jedi Temple in search of penance or answers or both, has seen the larger truth, the one none of his kind have previously realised or admitted. It's not enough to end the Sith, but to truly bring balance to the Force - something he obviously believes is absolutely necessary, and is clearly going to entrust Rey with (further foreshadowing his own death) - then the Jedi have to end. That's basically a suicide note.

No the wonder Daisy Ridley has teased Luke not being what she expected, since she obviously hoped to become a Jedi just like him. Another interesting point to raise here is whether Luke will leave Ahch-To.

I mean, he kind of has to, but he's also clearly very reluctant to do so. So while he is the one teaching Rey the ways of the Force, it also seems like she's going to have to bring him back in a sense as well (and also bring him back in a very literal way, because there better be a Luke and Leia scene in this movie).
