Star Wars: The Last Jedi Trailer Reactions - 8 Ups & 2 Downs
7. Rey's Training Vibe
Despite the fact that he wants to end the Jedi, it would appear that Luke still aids Rey in training to be a better Force User. Perhaps he just no longer believes in the core principles of the Order (though not enough to kill himself to end the Jedi completely). Watching that dynamic develop - particularly if Luke has some of Yoda's cantankerous spirit - is going to be great, particularly as a slower balance to the action around the rest of the Rebellion.
The training sequences that saw Yoda testing Luke's skills and preparing him to become a Jedi definitely had a Karate Kid sort of vibe, and they were a hugely successful part of building Luke as the heart of the Original Trilogy. It was also a personal connection that was crucially - and fatally - missing in the Prequels.
Fingers crossed we get to see Rey running the mountains with Luke in a little back-pack.
