9. What Did Finn Want To Tell Rey?

When Rey and co. are dragged into the quicksand on Pasana, Finn (John Boyega) desperately attempts to tell Rey something, but is sucked into the quicksand before he can get it out.

It's a running gag throughout the rest of the movie that Poe (Oscar Isaac) keeps prodding Finn to find out what he was going to say, though this oddly never ends up paying off in the film.

There are a few possibilities - Finn was going to declare his love for Rey, he was going to confess his obvious Force-sensitivity to her, or he knew some information about her past that he felt she should know.

The former is probably the most likely considering how antsy he gets about Poe's digging, but that would rather fly in the face of his established relationship with Rose (Kelly Marie Tran), no?

Conceptually this minor subplot/gag is just a total mess, as though Abrams wanted to cancel out the awkward Finn/Rose relationship in The Last Jedi but also didn't want to risk annoying the shippers by trampling over it completely.

Especially as the film had to of course have its embarrassing "Reylo" kiss at the end instead of Finn and Rey getting together. Gross.
