8. Who Were The Knights Of Ren?

Another deeply frustrating hanging thread in The Rise of Skywalker is the Knights of Ren. These Kylo Ren acolytes were hyped up in the marketing for The Force Awakens but appeared in the actual movie, in vision form, for mere seconds.

They were entirely absent from The Last Jedi, yet the trailers for this film seemed to suggest they'd finally get their fair due. And though they do appear in several scenes, they neither say nor do anything significant whatsoever.

They're quickly slaughtered by Kylo Ren near the end of the movie before the audience is ever given a chance to learn their names or where they come from.

The most logical implication is that they were students of Luke alongside Kylo Ren, but if that's true, then why the hell did they side with Palpatine rather than their old pal? Infuriating.
