10. How Did Maz Kanata Get Luke's Lightsaber?

This question has left Star Wars fans in agony ever since it was first raised in The Force Awakens.

In that film, Maz Kanata (Lupita Nyong'o) reveals to Rey (Daisy Ridley) that she has possession of Luke Skywalker's (Mark Hamill) lightsaber, and when Han Solo (Harrison Ford) asks where she got it, she retorts, "A good question, for another time."

Naturally this seemed to blatantly suggest we'd eventually learn where she found the saber, given that the last time we saw it, it was cleaved from Luke's hand and fell down a shaft back in The Empire Strikes Back.

But in typical J.J. Abrams fashion, he yet again sets up a mystery only to abandon it, and The Rise of Skywalker sadly never explains how Maz came to own the iconic trinket.

Given the likelihood that the inevitable Episode X will take the Star Wars series in a new direction away from all the Skywalker iconography, it doesn't seem terribly likely we'll ever find out - or if we do, it'll be in a random Star Wars comic book. Boo.
