Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker - 8 Burning Questions Left By The Trailer

During the trailer's opening showdown, Rey pulls out a lightsaber, and ignites it. This appears to be the blue blade that we most recently saw in The Last Jedi, where it was destroyed in a force-fight between Rey and Kylo Ren.

This lightsaber has a long history in the Star Wars saga, having been wielded by Anakin Skywalker during the prequels, and Luke Skywalker in the original trilogy. It was lost on Bespin when Darth Vader chopped off Luke's hand, and resurfaced in The Force Awakens, in the possession of Maz Kanata. Rey then acquired it, before its aforementioned destruction.

But now, it's back in one piece. So how did it get that way? Rey could have done it herself, but does she even have the know-how and skill to do something like that? Maybe she was helped by Luke's (who has experience in this area) force ghost, or Leia, or even Maz Kanata, who seemed to know quite a lot about the lightsaber when she had it in her possession. This would also give the character something useful to do in the movie, unlike The Last Jedi, which absolutely wasted her.

The Rise Of Skywalker will jump ahead in time, meaning that it won't take place immediately after The Last Jedi. Potentially, years could have passed, so the movie might not even show us how the lightsaber gets fixed; it might just start that way.
