Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker - 8 Burning Questions Left By The Trailer

6. Who's Piloting That Ship?

The biggest question about the opening scene is the identity of the pilot who appears to be trying to murder Rey. We don't get a clear look at them, with a quick shot of some gloved hands being our only clue. So who's behind the controls?

The prime candidate here is Kylo Ren, for several reasons. One, he and Rey aren't exactly the best of mates, so him trying to kill her would be par for the course. Two, Kylo is commonly found wearing dark gloves, just like the ones we get a glimpse of in the trailer. And three, the ship in the trailer looks an awful lot like Kylo's TIE silencer, the ship he used in The Last Jedi.

On top of all that, a picture that was released at Star Wars Celebration showed the character sat inside the cockpit of a ship, and the red lights in the background of this image are similar to the red lights in the background of the ship in the trailer.

Alternatively, it could be one of the new characters the film is introducing. Earlier this year, alleged artwork from the film leaked, including a poster, as well as some singular character images.

One of these images showed off a character called Zorri, who - just like the ship pilot in the trailer - appears to be wearing gloves.

Sure, this artwork might not be real (although the general consensus is that it is), but if it is Kylo flying the ship, why not just reveal him? Would that really be a spoiler? It seems like newer characters such as Zorri are being kept under wraps for the time being, which would explain why we didn't get a clear look at the pilot's face in the trailer.
