At the very end of the movie, Palpatine drains the life force from both Rey and Kylo Ren in order to rejuvenate himself, glowing orange eyes and all.

While doing so, he also mentions that the "power of two" is vital to restoring his body, which is clearly a nod to the classic Sith "Rule of Two," a maxim which states that no more than two Sith Lords can exist at the same time.

Granted, the particulars of Palpatine's plan are so wildly convoluted that his musings probably shouldn't be taken as gospel, no matter how deliciously campy Ian McDiarmid's delivery was.
