Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Theory - Is THIS Where The Knights Of Ren Have Been?
4. What Is Their Allegiance In The Rise Of Skywalker?
The precise nature of the Knights' regard for Kylo Ren remains ambiguous, but it's certainly clear they're loyal to his cause.
Whether that extends to them deifying him as the grandson of Darth Vader remains to be seen, but evidently, they're at his command for whatever he requires.
As for their role in The Rise of Skywalker? Vanity Fair featured an image of them on-set during the film's Jordan shoot, and it's been speculated that the soldiers Kylo Ren is shown slicing through in the first trailer (pictured above) could very well be the Knights themselves.
But if this is true, it begs the question - what should we expect of the Knights' allegiance in The Rise of Skywalker?
It's not much of a stretch to believe they might be a teensy bit pissed off that Kylo Ren killed Snoke - assuming they even know he was responsible - and this could result in them seeking revenge, or even trying to seize control of the First Order for themselves.
Alternately, this could be an indication that Kylo Ren turns towards the Light Side and is forced to cut down his former comrades.
Or it's entirely possible we're being toyed with here, and these aren't the Knights of Ren we're seeing Kylo annihilate at all.
But for the Knights to merely show up as simple followers of Kylo Ren after two movies on the sidelines would be massively underwhelming, so we're expecting some major friction between the two.
And now we've dug into some relatively plausible ideas re: the Knights' motivations, let's consider some of the barmier theories about who they are and what they've been up to this whole time...
