Star Wars VII: 17 Reasons To Rejoice

4. Force Ghosts

One of the most frustrating plot resolutions of Episode III was Yoda€™s matter-of-fact way of telling Obi Wan that Qui Gon had figured out how to commune from the afterlife using the force. Obi Wan telling Darth in A New Hope that €œif you strike me down I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine€ is something that has been interpreted as allegorical up to this point but with Episode VII the situation arises that the nature of the Jedi afterlife can be more adequately explained. We have seen the subject touched upon in The Clone Wars but this is an important enough aspect of the story to merit being further addressed in the films. Force ghosts also throw up the intriguing possibility of Ewan McGregor, Liam Neeson, Frank Oz even Samuel L. Jackson showing up in the new trilogy, though it also opens the door to Hayden Christensen€™s return. To give the guy a break, maybe being directed by somebody with more affinity with actors than George Lucas, could allow him to give a slightly more nuanced portrayal of spirit Darth, though it has to be said this prospect is not inclusive of this list€™s reasons to rejoice.

3. Lightsabers

One of the big claims prior to the prequel trilogy was that we would finally see the Jedi in action; to a degree this was lived up to, with the lightsaber battle choreography being one of the few highlights of I, II and III. With Episode VII there is an opportunity there to push the use of the saber to its visual extreme; the Battle of Geonosis and some of the montage scenes of the Clone Wars in Episode III touched upon the idea of multiple sabre wielding Jedi - in a battle scenario - but if Episode VII leads to some kind of Sith uprising, ending the rule of two, there is an opportunity to finally show legions of Jedi and Sith clashing on the battle field. Even if it doesn€™t go that route, there€™s no doubting the fight chorography team will be attempting to show us a level and style of lightsaber combat we haven€™t yet seen.
