Star Wars VII: Essential Characters And Who Should Play Them – PART I

2. Anton Yelchin - Anakin Solo

Who: Anakin Solo is the youngest son of Han and Leia. You guessed it, he is named after his grandfather and the father of Leia and Luke, Anakin Skywalker. After the events of Return of the Jedi when Leia finds out that Luke is her brother and that Darth Vader was her father, Leia goes through a bit of a traumatic path of discovery. After all, it was Vader that stood by her side as Alderaan was destroyed and the man that tortured her while aboard the Death Star in A New Hope. Part of Leia€™s healing process in naming Anakin after her father was to redeem his name. She felt that through her son, she could show the galaxy the kind of man her father could have been. The story of Anakin Solo and his own fear of falling to the dark side could be an excellent subplot for an Episode VII and would do an excellent job of connecting both trilogies. Anakin could also show the audience what it's like to train as a young Jedi going through his Uncle's Jedi Academy or as a young Jedi Knight. Actor: I first saw Anton Yelchin in Terminator: Salvation as the young Kyle Reese from the original Terminator. I know Salvation carried a lot of scrutiny and was not very well received by critics and hardcore fans alike but I personally loved it. Yelchin is also known for his portrayal of Chekov in the newly rebooted Star Trek universe directed by JJ Abrams so it's safe to assume that Yelchin is no stranger to fanboy material. Since Yelchin already has a number of ties to a few long running fanboy franchises, I feel that he would fit excellently into the Star Wars universe. For anyone that read through the New Jedi Order series, Anakin Solo is one of its shinning characters and I believe that Yelchin could bring a great dynamic to the character.
