Star Wars VII: Essential Characters And Who Should Play Them – PART I

3. Joseph Gordon-Levitt - Jacen Solo

Who: Much like his other siblings Anakin and Jaina, Jacen Solo is a pivotal character in the Star Wars EU. If they are to incorporate either Jaina or Anakin into Episode VII and beyond, I can guarantee that you€™ll see the introduction of Jacen as well. It'd have to be a no-brainier: Jacen€™s character is a cornerstone within the Jedi Order that his Uncle Luke establishes and through much of it, it is believed that he will some day inherit the role that his Uncle held as the leader of that Jedi Order. Jacen is haunted by that future and whether or not he'll be able to live up to that challenge. Jacen is also one of the characters responsible for bringing about the debate of Light and Dark when dealing with aspects of the Force and that there should be more of a gray side. The Force is not inherently divided into good or bad but by the actions of the individuals that are using it. I think having this debate would be an excellent avenue to peruse in the new Star Wars trilogy with a perspective that the ends justify the means, something that Jacen ultimately attempts. Actor: What is there to say about Joseph Gordon-Levitt and how much of a great actor he is? Although he€™s been around for quite awhile, he€™s really burst onto the mainstream stage with some great movies the past few years. I loved him in Inception opposite of Leonardo DiCaprio and really thought he did a phenomenal job as a lead in Looper. If the established EU gets incorporated into the future Star Wars films, Jacen and his siblings have to be a part of it and all of these characters need to have strong leads. Star Wars is a family tale centered on the Skywalker line and all three of these characters fall in line with that legacy. I feel that Jacen needs to be cast just right and I strongly believe that Levitt could fill that role perfectly. Although he is older than Jennifer Lawrence, pairing them off as twins is something that could easily be accomplished.
