Star Wars: A Visual History

2. The Star Wars Holiday Special (1978)

For Christmas 1978, CBS aired The Star Wars Holiday Special, which is widely regarded as the very worst tie-in set in the galaxy far, far away. Featuring out-of-place musical numbers, extended sequences of Wookie dialogue and the sheen of a rip-off, it's been ridiculed for over thirty-five years. The only real highlight is an animated segment that introduces fan-favourite Boba Fett, two years before he made a big screen debut in The Empire Strikes Back.

The special was only aired once, with Lucasfilm barely even recognising its existence - it's only available on bootleg DVDs. The Fett segment was eventually released in isolation on the 2011 Blu-Ray.
