Star Wars: A Visual History
1. Star Wars (1977)
May 25, 1977 saw the release of the medium-changing movie known then as just Star Wars. It was a massive hit, becoming the highest grossing movie of all time and spawning a franchise empire.
The story itself was incredibly classical - a traditional knight's tale transplanted to a novel used-future - but seeing Luke Skywalker go from dreamy farm-boy to saviour of the galaxy, redeeming scoundrel Han Solo along the way, captured the world's imagination.
George Lucas' immense passion project was produced outside of the studio system, making it the biggest independent movie ever made.
