Stephen Chow is directing THE GREEN HORNET too!

Stephen Chow won't only be starring in THE GREEN HORNET but The Hollywood Reporter say he is directing the movie too. The writer/director/actor of the popular Asian movies SHAOLIN SOCCER, KUNG FU HUSTLE and CJ7 that have made it big worldwide, is to direct Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg's script for his American film-making debut at Columbia. The move mirrors the American debut of Bruce Lee from the original 60's t.v. show, a much admired hero of Chow's.

"I'm excited to be taking on 'The Green Hornet' -- obviously I've been a huge fan of the show since I was a kid," Chow said. "The idea of stepping into Bruce Lee's shoes as Kato is both humbling and thrilling, and to get the chance to direct the project as my American movie debut is simply a dream come true."
What does Chow's appointment in the director's chair mean for the kind of picture they are making? Is this basically going to be a live action, cartoonish piece of slapstick action - presumably yes or you wouldn't have hired him. The movie is set to open June 25th 2010 and we hear that Rogen has been on a big fitness regime, slimming down for what is his first action movie, unless you count some sequences of THE PINEAPPLE EXPRESS. Rogen as an action star? Chow directing a Hollywood movie from the writers of SUPERBAD? It's so bizarre a team-up, something just makes you think it will work doesn't it?
