Steve Carell: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

1. Evan Baxter - Evan Almighty

carellevan Bruce Almighty was something of a breakthrough for Steve Carell, and his character was a big hit, so why not give him his own spinoff, right? Well, in theory, that sounds good, but the final product was a complete dud and missed almost all of the successful points that made Bruce Almighty so engaging. The basic plot deals with congressman Evan Baxter, who is one day called upon by God to build an ark to save his community from a flood, despite his cynicism and the impediment of his very public role in office. What ensues is a terrible, failure of a film. As much as I love Carell, he simply made a wrong choice with this one. The biggest fault with the film is the fact that it was mostly geared toward young children, while Bruce Almighty was great for adults as well as kids. That blunts the comedy and the cynicism that could have been so crucial in making it work, and sadly the script is so poor that Carell is forced to pantomime his performance up a little too much. At least Carell has made fun of the film, openly admitting it was a pretty bad performance. Did we miss any Carell performances that deserve to be on this list? Share your thoughts below.
