Steven Spielberg: EVERY Movie Ranked Worst To Best

28. Always (1989)

ET The Extra Terrestrial
Paramount

Always is perhaps Spielberg's most gooey and romantic picture, a remake of the 1943 romantic drama A Guy Named Joe.

Richard Dreyfuss stars as Pete, a deceased firefighter who returns to earth with a spirit guide (Audrey Hepburn, in her final movie role) to mentor a young firefighter (Brad Johnson), who has fallen in love with Pete's girlfriend (Holly Hunter).

Thanks to the charming performance of Dreyfuss and comedy beats supplied by Hunter and John Goodman, Always is a comedy-drama that is mostly effective, but is rather forgettable when compared to Spielberg's other work.

I get to write about what I love, so that's pretty cool. Every great film should seem new every time you see it. Be excellent to each other.
