Suicide Squad: 10 Actors Who Could Replace Tom Hardy

8. Chris Pine

Grillo and O'Connell are fine possibilities to consider from a performance point of view, but it's possible €“ on the basis of the rest of the cast €“ that Warner Bros are going to be going after more of a €œname€ actor to star in Suicide Squad. Somebody who's not only got the acting chops of Hardy, but also the brand recognition. Hey, here's somebody who might be on the look out for a new franchise! It's possible that, after the third Star Trek film, the main cast will go off in search of new things (their contracts will be up, at least), and Pine has confirmed that his iteration of Tom Clancy's spy hero Jack Ryan won't be returning after last year's fine but underperforming Shadow Recruit. Pine also has the right look for Rick Flag. He's supposed to be an all-American hero in the truest, slightly troubling sense. Grillo is a fellow American, but he's a little older, a little rough around the edges; O'Connell has the same quality, is younger, and a bloody Limey. Pine, meanwhile, oozes matinee idol cool €“ and he's a damn good actor to boot.
