Suicide Squad: 10 Reasons It Will Save The DC Cinematic Universe

10. Mystical Powers (Before Marvel)

The big problem the DC Cinematic Universe faces is that its existing in the shadow of Marvel's, which looks set to become the highest grossing movie franchise ever with the release of Avengers: Age Of Ultron. So many of their creative choices appear to be in direct reaction to their rivals, vain attempts to either differentiate themselves or emulate the success. Suicide Squad marks a point where that (or at least the perceptions of it) could change. This film will bring Enchantress, portrayed Cara Delevingne, to the screen, marking the first time comic book movies have embraced the more overtly magical side of things; it will arrive before Benedict Cumberbatch dons the robe for Doctor Strange. Sure, it's all a matter of timing, but in the eyes of general audiences first is first. DC are making the leap into the mystical a whole three months before Marvel, coming across as a little more cutting edge. They'll also beat Marvel to the punch on another big modern superhero movie first; a female lead. Since Catwoman and Electra, Hollywood's acted like a Y chromosome is necessary to open a comic book movie, but now they're beginning rethink that (thank you, Hunger Games). Marvel have Captain Marvel due in 2018, but a whole year earlier Gal Gadot will star in DC's Wonder Woman.
