Suicide Squad: 12 Last Minute Concerns You Won't Admit

11. It Might Be A TEENSY Bit Sexist

Harley Quinn Sexist

The first trailer for Suicide Squad might have been great, but it came with a bit of a tasteless kicker, as Harley Quinn was shown bending over provocatively (and pretty needlessly) to steal a handbag from a shop window.

The second trailer then included a shot of her peeling her clothes off in public to reveal her underwear and then shrugging at the attention. The obliviousness was funny, the manner of it was a little unnecessary.

There's a horrible nagging suspicion that Harley is going to be overly sexualised for no reason other than titillation. The same can probably be said for Cara Delevingne's Enchantress, whose extremely tiny outfit is wildly at odds with the rest of the team's macho bulky wear.

Obviously there's an element of knowing your audience, but Harley is an iconic for female comic book fans (for evidence, jump to the future and see how many Comic Con Harley cosplayers there are next year). She doesn't even need to be reduced that way to be seen as a temptress or a lunatic.
