Ignoring the call for reshoots (they happen in every film, it's just some attract more controversy than others, so the agenda to publicise them changes), there's still a distinct chance that Suicide Squad might be too dark.

Obviously some edginess is inevitable, given the concept, but as Warner Bros were already reportedly all too aware, the problem for Suicide Squad is one of proximity. Batman v Superman was needlessly dark for the sake of provocation (if you don't believe it, go back and read Zack Snyder's comments about "conventional" superheroes when he was publicising Watchmen), and while making a Marvel-like comedy romp for Suicide Squad was stupid, going too dark will fuel the same fires.

Also, for all the complaints about the Joker being a bit daft, the biggest legitimate concern should be about the fact that he's basically going to be a Scorsese mobster in make-up. It's a nice idea, but the real appeal of the Joker isn't in anything as conventional as violence and naughty behaviour for effect, it's seeing him enjoy burning the world down.

And even worse - the "F*ck Marvel" gag at the premiere might have been a joke, but all it's done is make it look like they're consciously making anti-Marvel movies. And the long and short of an anti-Marvel movie is an anti-successful movie.
