Suicide Squad: 15 Major Reveals From The New EW Details

13. El Diablo Killed "Those He Loved"

The short biography released by EW to accompany Clay Enos' stark, brilliant character portraits reveals something of El Diablo's backstory that slightly plays with his comic book origin.

In the comics Chato Santana accidentally killed a number of innocent women and children while attempting to recover money owed by some gang members (by burning down their building, what the hell did he expect?). But according to the biography released via EW, his penance comes from somewhere else:

"The monastic monster has squelched his fire-conjuring powers to a solitary flame as penance for the horrors he inflicted on those he's loved."

Presumably, he accidentally killed his family, which adds an extra touch of tragedy.

There's also confirmation that Katana is still mourning the death of her husband, basically confirming the close adaptation of her comic book origin.
