Suicide Squad 2: 10 Big Reasons To Be Excited

With the recent departure of original director Gavin O'Connor and the initial script, SS2's creative team was rather blank. However, soon after the news came regarding the sequel's initial script and director, a new name was brought up, then quickly confirmed to be involved with the film: James Gunn.

The man credited for establishing the Guardians of the Galaxy within the MCU and a number of small dark comedic hits has been confirmed as SS2's screenwriter, and it may turn out to be the sequel's best pickup. Considering the original Suicide Squad was definitely trying to hone in on Guardians' tone and success, it seems only fitting they get someone who was so fundamental to that film's success.

While Gunn brings name recognition to the creative team, he also brings that history of dark, morbid comedy along, which would work perfectly with the SS. Considering how terrible things are always happening around the Squad and their suitably-morbid personalities, Gunn could bring out that humor that was far more prevalent in his pre-Guardians work.

While he may (not yet) be the director, Gunn's influence on the film will be strong, which may end up being the key to the project meeting its potential.
