Suicide Squad 2 has an official release date, with the DC sequel slated for August 6, 2021, and James Gunn set to direct the film

Coming almost exactly five years after the first movie, this will be a fresh take on Task Force X, with the Guardians of the Galaxy director set to write as well as helm the picture.

Gunn was already confirmed to be writing the film, but now word comes from The Hollywood Reporter that he'll be directing as well. That's pretty great news for anyone who's a fan of DC, and bad for anyone involved with Marvel Studios. Their loss is DC's gain, after Gunn was fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 after some old controversial tweets came to light.

We've previously heard that his movie will put a new spin on things, and THR's report goes further on this, confirming that it won't be a direct sequel but rather a relaunch, going by the title The Suicide Squad. That'll mean a mostly, if not completely new roster of characters and a new cast as well. Obviously there's no casting in place yet, but Dave Bautista has already registered his interest.

On top of the Suicide Squad news, a release date has also been given to Matt Reeves' The Batman, and another, more suprising DC movie: DC's Super Pets will release May 21, 2021.
