Suicide Squad: 5 Ups & 5 Downs From Trailer 2
3. El Diablo Looks A Properly Intriguing Character
Previously assumed to be nothing more than cannon fodder alongsider Slipknot and Killer Croc, El Diablo actually now looks like one of the most intriguing characters in the film. It looks like he's going to follow the comic book backstory and be racked with guilt at having accidentally killed some innocents while trying to commit arson. The backstory might change in its details of course, but the sentiment seems to be there.
By virtue of the fact that we see Deadshot having to cajole him out of his restrictive shell, it seems to fit that El Diablo has actually retired his powers in case of collateral damage. Which would give him easily one of the most compelling personal stories.
It also fits in with the wider DCEU issue of superpowered morality and the question of whether heroes and villains actually SHOULD use their powers, rather than just whether they can. After this trailer, he's leapt pretty quickly towards the top of the film's character power-ranking.
