Suicide Squad: 8 Biggest Differences With Batman V Superman
5. The Expectations Are Very Different
A year ago it was assumed by many that Batman V Superman would be the jewel in the DC crown. The Comic-Con trailer was just so damn good that it looked as if the film could not be anything less than a cultural milestone. In contrast, Suicide Squad, a property that most casual observers hadn’t even heard of, was so far back in the distance, people just hoped it would be an entertaining addition to the Batman V Superman juggernaut.
Reality has worked itself out to be quite different, however. While Batman V Superman has made boatloads of money, it has not closed in on the fabled billion-dollar mark as basically everyone assumed it would – which is actually kind of a disaster. Worst of all, though, the reaction has been so weak that even the most die-hard fans have been struggling to find reasons to be optimistic.
All the pressure is on Suicide Squad to now become what Batman V Superman was meant to be. Everyone involved is hoping that it will be DC’s Guardians Of The Galaxy and reinvigorate the franchise. The problem, of course, is that expectations were set deliberately low for Guardians, which is part of the reason it was such a staggering success. When you don’t expect much, it doesn’t take much to exceed expectations.
