Suicide Squad: 9 Major Implications For Future DC Movies
4. Harley And The Joker Are Free
Speaking of Harley Quinn, she is the one member of the Squad to end the movie with the status quo radically changed (well, out of those still alive anyway). While the rest of Task Force X are still stuck behind bars, Harley is broken out of prison by the Joker.
That in itself is an example of the issues with this universe's Joker (which is really Jared Leto playing Jim Carrey playing the Riddler impersonating a 1930s mob boss), since his motivations where Harley is concerned play as love, rather than ownership. But his actions at the end of the movie do at least set things up for more from the pair.
As mentioned, they're clearly tied to Batman's past, and their survival and Harley's escape increases the chance of them being a part of his future too. The solo Batman movie seems the most likely destination for the pair now, but there's also the mooted Harley Quinn movie (which would potentially feature Batgirl and the Birds of Prey). With Harley Quinn at large and with the Joker, there's definitely scope for them to return in the DCEU in some form.
