Suicide Squad: Ranking Every Character From Worst To Best
1. Boomerang
Who would have thought that Jai Courtney would emerge as the most watchable, most fun character in Suicide Squad? It's almost incomprehensible, given expectations.
Boomerang actually represents everything that Suicide Squad should have been. He's bonkers, outrageous, and colourful in a way that the old comics used to be, and he genuinely feels like a criminal. Even when he's inexplicably finding beers in the heat of battle, he's joyfully silly - the Deadpool-like spirit that the positive reviews seemed to suggest was everywhere.
Yes, there's a questionable sexist element, but he's a bad guy, and you're not supposed to like everything about him. But he balances that with some of the only successful humour, a surprising emotional candour (when Diablo tells his story) and lots of twinkling-eye charm. He's the model for the spirit that any sequel should seek - naughtiness, fun, an actual PG-13, rather than just slathering everything with murk, daft effects and moralising.
