Suicide Squad: Ranking The Characters By Anticipation

2. The Joker

Played By: Jared Leto. Who's Jared Leto? Aside from being the lead singer of Thirty Seconds to Mars, Leto's been acting steadily for two decades now, turning up in films like Fight Club, Girl, Interrupted, American Psycho, Requiem for a Dream, Panic Room, and Dallas Buyers Club. The Joker is undeniably one of the most famous comic book creations of all-time, with countless interpretations of the character on page and off having given rise to legions of fans, all of whom have their own personal favorite takes. Whether one prefers Jack Nicholson's scenery-chewing performance in 1989's Batman or Heath Ledger's unforgettable interpretation in The Dark Knight or Mark Hamill's legendary voicework, the fact remains that he's a character open to all kinds of adaptation and will undoubtedly remain so for years to come. When Leto's Joker was revealed - tattoos, silver smile, and all - it took a lot of people by surprise. It speaks volumes of the character's popularity that people had such strong reactions, ranging from open-minded approval to outright dismissal of Leto's performance without actually seeing him, you know, perform, echoing the types of reactions that were had when Ledger was cast in the role. Leto has demonstrated he's passionate in the role, throwing himself entirely into the character, and it seems a certainty that that passion will be clear within the film. Whether audiences ultimately take to his interpretation is up in the air, but it's hard not to be excited to see what someone new is bringing to the table for the Clown Prince of Crime and how he fits into the DCEU moving forward.
