Sundance 2017: 10 Films Everyone Is Buzzing About
3. Brigsby Bear
Director: Dave McCary
The Plot: Brigsby Bear follows James, a man who's lived his entire life inside a bunker with his parents, who claim the outside world is too dangerous to venture into.
James spends most of his time watching Brigsby Bear, the only TV show still being made, before leaving the bunker and attempting to create a fan-film that will serve to finish Brigsby's adventure.
The Buzz: Vanity Fair described Brigsby Bear as a cross between Room and The Truman Show - isn't that enough to get you excited?
The movie is furiously funny, yet its subject matter - separation and subsequent re-integration into normal society - ensures it packs a heart.
The supporting cast is stellar, too. Star Wars vet Mark Hamill appears as James' father, alongside Claire Danes, Greg Kinnear and Andy Samberg, and the varied amount of comedic and dramatic talent on show helps the film carry the right balance between the two.
Collider said that "it’s a celebration of creativity and fandom, and it will put a huge smile on your face" - Brigsby Bear doesn't yet have a wide release date, but it should prove an entertaining crowd-pleaser when it eventually does hit our screens.
