Super Bowl 2019: Ranking Every Trailer From Worst To Best

3. Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark

Taking an entirely unorthodox and unique approach to capitalizing on Super Bowl marketing, the upcoming Guillermo del Toro-produced adaptation of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark made a huge first impression on audiences in a series of micro-trailers.

With a total of four of these ten-second-long micro-trailers airing over the course of the game, each one focused on a different classic creature or monster from the original book series and they worked exceedingly well. Impressively, the well-crafted spots are able to generate suspense and deliver payoffs in just under ten seconds, something half the horror films released can't even do in an hour-and-a-half.

While all of them are strong, the spots for the Jangly Man and the Pale Lady are the real standouts here, showcasing these unbelievably faithful translations to the screen and selling the aesthetic of the film as genuinely frightening.

Overall, this style of marketing was certainly a gamble but it looks to have paid off in spades.
