Super Bowl 2019 Trailers: 10 Things We Learned
9. Guillermo Del Toro's New Movie Has A Spider Hatching Out Of A Woman's Face
Lionsgate aired four (!) TV spots for their new summer horror film Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, based on Alvin Schwartz's beloved children's books and being both produced and conceptualised by Guillermo del Toro.
Though most of the trailers honestly didn't make much of a dent by relying on cliched horror gags and jump scares we've all seen hundreds of times before, the final teaser did manage to, uh, get under the skin.
This teaser was based on the short story "The Red Spot", in which a young woman finds a red blemish on her face, only for a fleet of spiders to hatch out of it.
It looks absolutely revolting, and while it's hard to say that Lionsgate's $10.5 million spend on Super Bowl ads for the film was a sound investment, they at least had the decency to go out strong.
