Super Bowl 2019 Trailers: 10 Things We Learned

3. The Handmaid's Tale Season 3 Urges America To Wake Up

There was a surprising absence of politicised commercials in this year's Super Bowl, especially after last year's seemed so pointed towards the current American climate.

But Hulu nevertheless took the opportunity to exploit the intense unease in the U.S. with their appropriately grim trailer for the third season of The Handmaid's Tale (which remains without a release date but is expected to start airing in late April).

After a propaganda-type opening extols the virtues of Gilead's authoritarian regime ("It's morning again"), the tone quickly shifts, with a vengeful June (Elisabeth Moss) telling the audience, "Wake up America, morning's over."

It's impossible not to hear those words through the lens of the Trump administration - and of course, June's talking as much about "mourning" as she is "morning."

Even though season two's ending wasn't to all tastes, this intense teaser does a great job restoring the hype regardless.
