Superhero Costumes in Film: 5 That Were Awesome and 5 That Sucked

5 That Were Awesome...

5. Hellboy - Hellboy (2004), Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008)

Somewhat paradoxically, this list opens with an entry that isn't technically a costume; though it is undeniably badass. Initially, upon the revelation that Mike Mignola's cult demon-hero was to be adapted for the silver screen, there were many who reacted with marginal apprehension. There can be no denying that Hellboy, in comic book form, is a figure to be reckoned with; the perfect blend of both intimidation and brutality, with just a hint of civility and style. However, translating this persona into live-action was always going to be a tall order. If done poorly, it would've condemned Hellboy to the film abyss. Fortunately, Hellboy's appearance was a huge success. Though he did somewhat lose his imposing nature along the way, there can be no denying that Guillermo del Toro's Hellboy embodied what it meant to be superheroic.
