Superman: Ranking All Lois Lane Performances - Worst To Best

5. Noel Neill - Adventures Of Superman (season 2-6)

As the first woman to play Lois Lane on film, Noel Neill has a permanent place in the history of Superman. The Adventures of Superman, starring George Reeves, was eventually brought to television as a result of the film serials Superman (1948) and Atom Man vs. Superman (1950). After Phyllis Coates left the role of Lois at the conclusion of season one, Neill was brought in to reprise the role from the serials. She played it until the series ended, due to the tragic death of Reeves. Because she was the first Lois Lane, a lot of what she did in the serials and the tv show paved the way for future actresses to take on the role. Neill's quirky, throaty delivery and beautiful presence were a lovely balance to Reeves' more stoic, commanding portrayal of Superman. Neill does a lot of little things with her version of Lois that just bring the character to life, from the subtle way her eyes twinkle to the no-nonsense delivery. She was one of the first to take the character from the page to the screen and make you feel like the character had been given three dimensions, and her charming sense of playfulness also gave Lois some extra personality. As they say, she was quite literally the original Lois Lane, and was the benchmark for all the others that would follow.
