Superman: Ranking All Lois Lane Performances - Worst To Best
3. Phyllis Coates - Adventures Of Superman (Season 1)
While Noel Neill may be the original Lois Lane, Phyllis Coates edges her out for one simple reason; she had balls. Coates' Lois had the same demeanor and brawny attitude that her comic book counterpart was known for, and she was truly spectacular in the role. She may not have been able to bend steel in her bare hands, but Coates was just as tough as the Man of Steel. You could sense a very calm and confident woman underneath all that fierce exterior, even as she was put into the most perilous of situations. Even when faced with the brutal dangers of gangsters and mob bosses, Coates' Lois remained tough in the face of adversity. Though she was prone to becoming lost in fear, especially in the episode "Mystery in Wax", Coates gave Lois a strong and unflinching sense of toughness. Coates worked effortlessly with Reeves, contrasting his incredible charm with her gorgeous on-screen presence. Her brief time in the role does not take away from the brilliant things she did with it, where she created a fantastic portrayal of the character.
