Superman vs. Batman Movie: 5 Reasons It Might Not Work

1. Tonal & Thematic Inconsistency

manofsteeletrailer_620_121112 Whenever the two titanic heroes have duelled in the comics, Batman has always needed the help of an extra element or a precognitive plan to get the better of Superman. From weaponising Kryptonite to donning a special form of armour, there's no way you could show the on-screen version of these characters in a fist-fight given what we've seen in Man of Steel, and not constantly wonder why Kal-El isn't flinging Batman through a few planets. The wonderful world of comics allows for such clashes to feel more at home, either through not showing every single action in a fight and letting your mind do the rest, falling back on an entire mythology of characters and elements to provide equal footing, or just through genre expectations. It'll be a miracle if Zack Snyder can simultaneously tell a quasi-origin story for New Batman and make his interest in an intergalactic-being believable, whilst giving Superman enough restraint to not pop The Dark Knight's head like a champagne cork or toast him from half a mile away with his heat-vision. If all those things can come together, Batman vs. Superman (or whatever) will deserve it's inevitable inclusion in the pantheon of greatest selling movies of all time. What do all you guys think? I'm by no means a hardcore fan (as you may have noticed if I've omitted something you're about to say in the comments!) but I'd still love to hear from everyone with what you think about the flick. Excited? Non-plussed? Wanting more information before committing to either? Let us know!
