Warner Bros. have had a Justice League movie in the pipeline since 2007 and signed George Miller to direct, who even cast the film in October 2007. However, Warner Bros. said in 2008 that the film was indefinitely on hold as they felt the script needed work. Thanks to Batman vs. Superman paving the way, Justice League is now again in the pipeline, probably for 2017 where 'The world's greatest heroes are assembled to form the Justice League, to combat a threat beyond each individual's capabilities.' The Marvel Cinematic Universe has never left itself without room to explore further, which is what has ultimately made its films such a sprawling success. Although the Nolan Dark Knight trilogy was a magnificent success,it was set in a self contained universe. Batman vs. Superman opens up that door for the DC comics crossover franchise to expand further into other cinematic features such as the upcoming Justice League film. There is also rumoured to be an upcoming Flash film in 2016 which makes the likelihood of Flash making an appearing in Batman vs. Superman (no matter how brief) even more realistic as it would pave the way and give us a bit of anticipation to the 2016 release. It would seem that Warner Bros. are shoehorning as much as possible into Batman V Superman in order to make way for future possibilities. This is hardly a surprise-Warners had long since been casting envious eyes in the direction of the success the assorted Marvel adaptations have made when interconnected with each other, culminating in an expected excess gross for the forthcoming Avengers sequel of the billion dollar take of the first film. Will DC characters emulate this success? One thing for sure is that we will be seeing a whole lot more of characters from both franchises over the next few years as we find out.
