20 Horror Movies That Weren't What Anyone Expected
9. They Will Kill You
The recently released They Will Kill You earned plenty of comparisons to the Ready or Not movies, considering that it also revolves around a woman (Zazie Beetz) forced to survive the night against an unhinged cult that plans to sacrifice her.
And honestly, Warner Bros. probably would've been smart to reveal the film's bonkers twist in its trailers, to help differentiate it from Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, which released just a week earlier.
The trailers painted They Will Kill You as a relatively "grounded" action-horror film, while totally ignoring the meat of its setup.
As it turns out, the cultists pursuing protagonist Asia (Zazie Beetz) throughout the lavish high-rise building actually possess powers of immortality due to their human sacrifices, meaning they spring back to life whenever Asia "kills" them.
Granted, this was one hell of a fun surprise to the many unaware, but it's also enough of a compelling marketing hook that it probably should've been spoiled ahead of time.
