20 Recent Movie Scenes NOBODY Saw Coming

Yorgos Lanthimos' brilliant Bugonia ends with the jaw-dropping revelation that pharma CEO Michelle (Emma Stone) actually is the leader of the alien race known as the Andromedans, just as conspiracy theorist Teddy (Jesse Plemons) believed.

But that's not quite the final shock that the film has in store, as after returning to her mothership she consults with other high-ranking Andromedans and decides that the entire experiment of human existence - who the Andromedans created in their own image - has been a failure.

And so, Michelle walks over to a diorama-like bubble and pops it, at which point Lanthimos treats us to a chilling yet darkly funny montage of the entire human race having been instantly exterminated.

Busy sights like nightclubs, beaches, schools, mosques, and so on are now eerily quiet as the people there lie dead, the only visible signs of life being birds and bees.

Even if you'd already seen the South Korean film on which Bugonia is based, Save the Green Planet!, you couldn't have quite seen this ending sequence coming, given that the original features no such montage of ominously peaceful corpses, ending instead with Earth being instantaneously exploded.
