14. Wicked: For Good
If you took the Internet chatter at face value - ever a risky prospect - you would've assumed that Wicked: For Good joined the annals of all-time flop sequels.
With the musical follow-up suffering the worst post-Thanksgiving box office drop of all time for a movie playing in over 2,000 theaters, combined with mixed critical reviews and a lukewarm response from die-hard Wicked fans, it seemed like the film was thoroughly cooked.
The fact that Wicked: For Good also went on to be entirely shut out by the Oscars, while the first film received 10 nominations and won two, only furthered the perception that it was a pure dud.
Yet once again proving that the Internet isn't real life, Wicked: For Good actually defied the negativity and still pulled in a huge $532.3 million on a $150 million budget.
While this marked a considerable drop from the first film's $758.8 million gross, it's still a strong result for a "part two" sequel released just a year after the first.
